Hi Spearhead
1) Could you please present your actual line-up? Where do you come from?
INVICTUS: The current line-up consists of myself on rhythm guitar, Barghest on bass/vocals and Nephilim on lead guitar. We are currently searching for a new drummer. We are spread across the UK at the moment, but all originate from the south of the country.
2) Could you please present your album?
INVICTUS: ‘Theomachia’ is our third full length album, and is by far the most violent and belligerent Spearhead release so far. We started writing ‘Theomachia’ back in 2007, after we had recorded our last album. The album was recorded over a period of around 3 weeks in July 2010 at Orgone Studios in London.
3) What about talk your lyrics? Do you have a message to communicate through them?
INVICTUS: ‘Theomachia’ deals with the cyclical nature of time, rise and fall, ebb and flow, as opposed to the modern Western conception of ever upwards progression, the blind vanity of degeneration. It deals with the idea of civilisation as an organic entity, prey to disease and old age as much as every other organic entity - an idea found in countless mythologies and philosophies in the world of Tradition. One either has the choice to perish in the flames of decay, or become an autocrat of one’s own existence. For a more in-depth description you’ll need to consult the album foreword.
4) What are your influences?
INVICTUS: Our influences are relatively diverse and we have forged a sound and identify that is our own. Nevertheless, people are usually compelled to draw comparisons and we often see bands such as Morbid Angel, Angelcorpse, Bolt Thrower and Destroyer 666 mentioned. I think it’s fair to say that there are elements of these bands in our music. Other bands that spring to mind would be old Krisiun, Centurian, Absu, Sodom, and old Kreator.
5) Which bands do you listen currently?
INVICTUS: Far too many to mention them all – most of the bands mentioned above are on regular rotation, together with a variety of other artists such as Triarii, Abhorrence, old Vader, Karjalan Sissit, Antaeus, Genocide Organ, Infernal War, Revenge, Mitochondrion amongst others.
6) Do you have others projects planned? Album, lives...
INVICTUS: We are currently considering a number of tour options, but nothing is confirmed at present. There are also some other possible gigs in the pipeline for later in the year. Any promoters interested in booking Spearhead should contact us directly (spearheadmetal@gmail.com). In the meantime work on the next album has already begun, and this promises to continue in the Spearhead tradition. Expect another vicious and scathing assault sometime in the near future.
7) If you have to define your music in one adjective, which one will it be? And why?
INVICTUS: Violent – because it is.
8) What do you think about the European Metal scene?
INVICTUS: I can only speak for myself here, but I personally have no specific feelings towards the European metal scene – I can’t say this is something I have ever given any consideration to. Having said that, like in most places there are some great bands amongst a tide of useless garbage.
9) If you have something to say, this for you...
INVICTUS: Thanks for the interview. Svpero Omnia!
